| In this project, far from considering the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) as an exceptional case and analyze it through the lens of Islam or authoritarianism, I will investigate Iranian politics through the analysis of the social relief (SR) sector. POLSI draws on a sociohistorical and ethnography study of SR actors, discourses and practices. It shows how, in a global context of neoliberalism and social and financial crisis, it's crucial to explore politics via the SR sector. |
Biography
I am a Cofund MARIE CURIE ULB postdoctoral researcher working at the Recherche et Etudes en Politique Internationale (REPI) & the Observatoire des Mondes Arabes et Musulmans (OMAM-MSH). I am also an associate researcher at the Institute of Interdisciplinary Research on Social Issues (IRIS) / Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS).
After a doctorate in Sociology at the EHESS (2016), I undertook postdoctoral research entitled « Everyday Beneficence. Investigating how Islam and politics entangle through the socio history of “doing good” in Iran (1906 – 2016) ». Funded by the GERDA HENKEL Foundation – Special Programme Islam, the Modern Nation-State and Transnational Movements (2017-2019), I worked on this project in collaboration with the Institute of Research and Study on the Arab and Muslim Worlds (IREMAM).
My research interests have revolved around two main axes, with the Iranian fieldwork being at the core: to provide a comparative anthropological approach of ordinary politics and to reflect on the circulations of discourses and practices (from global to micro-local and vice-versa).
